West Coast Alaska Storm Response - Dog Evacuations
Over 200 dogs were evacuated from Western Alaska in response to Typhoon Halong. Many of these dogs have been reunited with their owners or placed in foster homes until their owners are able to care for them. Some dogs were surrendered to animal shelters or rescues. We would like to thank all the workers and volunteers who have contributed to this enormous effort.
For owners of evacuated dogs that are in foster care, please continue to maintain contact with the shelter or rescue. There are medical resources for evacuated dogs, including spay/neuter surgery, wellness exams, and vaccinations available through Alaska Rural Veterinary Outreach (ARVO).
Alaska Native Rural Veterinary, Inc. and Alaska Rural Veterinary Outreach (ARVO) may also be able provide medical care to dogs currently in remote locations.
If you are interested in adopting a dog, please contact your local animal shelter or rescue.
