Episode Information

If DEC or a Local Air Quality Program has declared an Air Quality Episode:
- Statewide
- Read the Episode Announcement to see if open burning is prohibited
- Inside the FNSB PM2.5 Nonattainment Area
- Restricts use of all solid fuel burning devices
- Stage 1 Alerts only allow households with waivers to use solid fuel burning devices
- Stage 2 Alerts allow for only households with No Other Adequate Source of Heat (NOASH) waivers to use solid fuel burning devices
- Open burning is prohibited regardless of alert status November 1st through March 31st
If DEC or a Local Air Quality Program has declared an Air Quality Advisory:
- Statewide
- Open burning is prohibited
- DEC will request voluntary action from permitted stationary sources in the area
- DEC will publicize actions to protect public health
- Statewide

IDEC will declare an air alert for the Fairbanks Nonattainment area, when the 24-hour average ambient air concentration of PM2.5 has or is likely to exceed the health based episode thresholds. See table.

DEC may declare an air quality alert for the Fairbanks Nonattainment area, when PM2.5 air quality or atmospheric dispersion conditions threaten public health.
