Tyonek Fuel Spill

Location: Tyonek Second Lake, Tyonek is located on the west side of Cook Inlet approximately 43 miles southwest of Anchorage.
Time/Date: The incident happened at 2:30 PM on August 10, 2005, and was reported to ADEC at 4:47 PM on August 10, 2005 by village staff.
Spill Id: 05239922201
Product/ Quantity: Gasoline and related motor fluids. The total amount of product spilled is estimated by village staff to be 20 gallons based on fuel tank capacity of the fire truck.
Cause: The community fire truck’s brakes malfunctioned while parked and rolled into Second Lake releasing gasoline and related motor fluids into the lake.
