Kake Tribal Fuel Tank Farm Gasoline Spill

- At approximately 11:00 a.m. on December 7, a local resident reported a strong gasoline odor coming from the Kake Tribal Fuel Tank Farm to Kake Tribal Fuel staff. The resulting inspection identified tank #6 as the source of the spill. Kake Tribal Fuel staff reported the release to ADEC at 1:55 p.m. on the same day.

- Kake Tribal Fuel estimated approximately 900 gallons of unleaded gasoline was released to the facility's secondary containment area. Small quantities of sheen and gasoline have been found outside of secondary containment in a ditch down gradient from the facility. Tank #6 is an 8,000-gallon capacity tank and contained approximately 7,000 gallons of gasoline prior to the spill.
- Cause
- A thumb-size hole was found near the bottom of tank #6.
