The F/V Pacific Maid crew estimates that the vessel had 300 gallons of diesel fuel on board at the time of sinking. On January 6, 2026, the USCG reported that fuel was bubbling up to the surface of the water from the damaged port side fuel tank. The DEC estimates 150 gallons of fuel may have been released from the damaged fuel tank which is now empty.
Cause
The spill occurred after the F/V Pacific Maid had an allision with a rock on the sea floor. The port side fuel tank was crushed as a result.
