Surface Water Standards Table: Technical Memorandum

Surface water monitoring results should be compared to the standards in the table below. The standards are based on the following hierarchy:

  1. EPA Primary Drinking Water MCLs (40 CFR 141) as reference in 18 AAC 70
  2. Alaska Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (APDES) Multisector General Permit for Storm Water Discharges Associated with Industrial Activity (MSGP), Sector L –Landfills, Land Application Site, and Open Dumps
  3. National Secondary Drinking Water Regulation standards under 40 CFR 143
  4. ADEC 18 AAC 75.345, Table C groundwater cleanup levels
  5. EPA Lifetime Health Advisory Levels
  6. ADEC 18 AAC 70, Water Quality Standards
  7. Where no standard exists, a site-specific standard will be developed by the facility in consultation with ADEC if the constituent is detected in surface water

The standards contained in this table are effective July 9, 2018. The standards will be updated as needed.
