Bootcamp

The SW Bootcamp is a FREE online training that aims to teach participants about the basics of solid waste management in rural landfills (Class III landfills).

Topics covered during the training include: Introduction to Solid Waste in Rural Alaska, Solid Waste Best Management Practices, Proper Burning Practices, Class III Landfill Designs, Applying for/Renewing a Class III Landfill Permit, Maintaining Operations and Site Plans, Class III Landfill Impacts on Human Health and the Environment, Backhaul/Recycling, Introducing the Waste Index Landfill Scoring Criteria, and more.

Who can take the course? Everyone is welcome! The Bootcamp is open to any member of the public, but attendees often include rural landfill operators, city managers, GAP coordinators, partnering agencies, and anyone who works with rural communities on landfill issues.

Certificates of completion are available for any participant that attends the full Bootcamp training. Please note, this satisfies the landfill operator training requirement listed in the Waste Management Index for Class III Landfill Inspections.
