F/V Oban

Location: West side of Duke Island, which is approximately 10 miles south of Annette Island. (54 degrees 54.75 North Latitude/ 131 degrees 28.84 West Longitude).
Time/Date: At 8:05 PM on March 23, 2005, the U.S. Coast Guard notified ADEC that the F/V Oban had run aground on the southwest corner of Duke Island at 6:22 PM on March 23, 2005. The F/V Oban is a 41’ wood hull vessel.
Spill Id: 05119908201
Product/ Quantity: Marine diesel. Approximately 100 gallons of the fuel oil may have been released after storms battered the grounded vessel on March 25 & 26, 2005.
Cause: The owner of the F/V Oban informed the U.S. Coast Guard that the electronic navigation system had failed.
