Nana-Lynden Truck Rollover Mile 29

- Twenty nine miles north of the Red Dog Mine port site on the haul road. Red Dog Mine is located approximately 90 miles north of Kotzebue.

- The spill was reported to have occurred at 4:00 AM on September 21, 2005. Nana-Lynden Logistics notified ADEC at 8:00 AM on September 21, 2005.

- Initially Nana-Lynden Logistics reported that 15-20 tons of zinc concentrates and an unknown amount of diesel fuel was released to the tundra. On September 21, 2005 at 6:00 PM, Nana-Lynden corrected the spill report to be 15-25 tons of zinc concentrate and no diesel was released from the truck’s saddle tanks.
- Cause
- A southbound truck hauling zinc concentrate went off the northbound side of the road. The driver was uninjured. The cause of the accident has been determined to be driver error.
