- ConocoPhillips Alaska Inc. (CPAI) discovered the spill at 3:55 PM on December 25, 2008 and reported the spill to ADEC via the Alaska State Troopers at 4:16 PM.

- The product spilled was produced water, which contained a trace amount of crude oil. CPAI engineering calculations of the flow rate in the line and duration of release have increased from the initial volume estimate of 63,000 gallons (1,500 barrels) to 94,920 gallons (2,260 barrels).
- Cause
- The cause of the spill has been determined to be internal corrosion of the 6-inch water injection line.
