- BP Exploration Alaska (BPXA) discovered the spill at approximately 3:00 AM on January 12, 2009, and reported the spill to ADEC via the Alaska State Troopers at 4:19 AM.

- Produced crude and water. BPXA and Oasis Environmental estimate the final volumes of fluids released at 96.4 barrels of crude (4,048.8 gallons) and 136 barrels of produced water (5,712 gallons). The area impacted remains the same at 6,030 square feet (0.138 acres) of gravel pad.
- Cause
- Overflow of sand slurry tank and secondary containment. The final investigation determined that the automated flow control system failed to respond as required. BPXA has reconfigured the control system with a backup system that will respond in the event of any future failures.
