2025 Red Dog Mine Process Water Release

- An initial estimated amount of up to 400,000 gallons of process water was released. A portion of that left secondary containment. Of that, an estimated 100-1000 gallons left the gravel infrastructure to impact tundra and Red Dog Creek, which is currently not frozen. Process water has the potential to contain zinc, lead, cadmium, and tailing sediments.
- Cause
- A slurry pump failure led to an overflow of process water.
