Engineering References
The following documents are used in reviewing drinking water systems designs for approval. The first section of documents outlines our statutory and regulatory authority. The Alaska statute outlines powers and responsibilities that must be implemented in the regulations. Statutes are drafted through the Alaska legislature. Regulations are drafted by agencies and must go through a public process before they are finalized.
The general guidance documents listed in the second section are considered as part of an engineering assessment. They represent the engineering standards used in engineering reviews and inspections. Not all portions of the documents and websites are applicable in any given situation. Although we strive to maintain this list, it may not be complete.
The state drinking water regulations adopted some documents by reference; they are an extension of our drinking water regulations. The documents are available for review in each DEC office that conducts plan reviews. The references are copyright protected; they may not be copied. The documents are available for online purchase through AWWA or NSF. A list of the documents can be found in 18 AAC 80.010 (a) and (b).
