How do I request DEC to do a Sanitary Survey of my water system?

Contact sanitary survey group by e-mail at DEC.sanitarysurveys@alaska.gov to request DEC to perform a Sanitary Survey of your public water system. Be sure to include the name of public water system, PWSID # and your contact information in the request.

How will I know if DEC will be doing my Sanitary Survey?

If your Sanitary Survey request can be accomodated, Program staff will contact you to set up a day and time for the onsite inspection.

If your Sanitary Survey request cannot be accomodated, Program staff will contact you to let you know as soon as possible so that you can make arrangements with an approved third party surveyor.

Do I need to be there during the Sanitary Survey?

A representative (owner/operator/etc.) who is familiar with the public water sysem must be present to escort DEC staff around the water system, unlock doors/gates, access crawl spaces, etc. The representative must also be able to answer questions pertaining to the operation, management and maintenance of the water system.

Is there a charge for DEC to perform my Sanitary Survey?

Yes. The Sanitary Survey fee is based upon your source type and number of sources. You will be provided an invoice prior to the Sanitary Survey. Payment is expected at the time of the survey.
