Summary of Chapter 80
18 AAC 80 sets Alaska’s drinking water regulations by defining standards for public water systems, treatment, monitoring, and operator requirements to ensure safe and reliable water quality.
- Enforces public water system standards for all systems serving 25 or more people daily including plan reviews, source water protection, disinfection protocols, and infrastructure prerequisites
- Mandates water quality monitoring, including coliform, lead/copper, surface water, and disinfection byproduct testing, and requires public notification and variance processes under established protocols
- Requires certified operators, laboratory accreditation, and administration of penalties for noncompliance, ensuring professional oversight and accountability throughout water system operations
