Community Status Updates

The Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) is working closely with communities, local governments, Tribal and regional organizations, and state and federal partners to support recovery efforts in Western Alaska following Typhoon Halong.

This page provides daily updates on the status of drinking water, wastewater, solid waste, and environmental conditions in affected communities. Our goal is to share accurate, transparent information so residents, leaders, and partners know what’s being done—and what comes next—as we work together toward recovery.

Every community’s path to recovery will look different. Some systems are already operational, while others are still being assessed or awaiting materials, transportation, or power restoration. DEC teams— including Remote Maintenance Workers (RMWs), Spill Prevention and Response staff, and Environmental Health staff—are working with local operators to restore essential services as safely and quickly as possible.

Recovery takes time, but DEC remains committed to helping communities rebuild stronger, safer, and more resilient for the future.
