Proposed Regulation For Siting Of Microreactors

The Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation (ADEC) proposes to adopt regulations to create a new chapter 18 AAC XX of the Alaska Administrative Code, dealing with nuclear facility siting and microreactor location requirements, including adding sections to:

  1. Describe the purpose of the chapter;
  2. Describe pre-application and notice requirements for a nuclear facility siting permit applicant;
  3. Set out application procedures for a nuclear facility siting permit;
  4. Describe nuclear facility siting permit processing and issuance;
  5. Describe nuclear facility siting permit modification, termination, and appeal;
  6. Describe location requirements for a microreactor facility; and
  7. Set out definitions for this chapter.

Public Comments

You may submit written questions relevant to the proposed action to Rebecca Colvin by email at rebecca.colvin@alaska.gov or at 555 Cordova St. Anchorage, AK 99501. The questions must be received at least 10 days before the end of the public comment period. The ADEC will aggregate its response to substantially similar questions and make the questions and responses available on the Alaska Online Public Notice System and at this website.

After the public comment period ends, ADEC will either adopt the proposed regulation changes or other provisions dealing with the same subject, without further notice, or decide to take no action. The language of the final regulation may be different from that of the proposed regulation. You should comment during the time allowed if your interests could be affected.
