Unified Command established for Point Thomson Export Pipeline Leak
Anchorage, AK – 1/17/2024
A Unified Command (UC) consisting of Harvest Alaska, the Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation, the North Slope Borough, and the US Coast Guard, has been established to address a leak of natural gas condensate, a light hydrocarbon similar to diesel or kerosene, from Point Thomson Export Pipeline.
The establishment of the UC ensures a coordinated and efficient response to the incident, with all involved parties working together to mitigate the impact of the leak and protect the environment. The UC brings together the expertise and resources of its members, enabling a comprehensive and effective approach to incident management.
As of this morning, favorable weather conditions on the North Slope have allowed crews onsite, including Alaska Clean Seas, to make substantial progress with cleanup efforts. The condensate is currently being collected from the snow surface and transported for proper recycling. There have been no wildlife or personal safety incidents in connection with the event.
