Freshwater Monitoring
DEC gathers ambient baseline and targeted water quality data to characterize environmental conditions throughout the state. Ambient baseline surveys use a random statistical design to make inferences on water quality over large areas. These surveys collect water chemistry, biological samples, and physical habitat information. Alternately, targeted projects assess whether specific waterbodies are meeting water quality criteria. Reports for recent projects can be found in the table below.
