DEC's 50th Anniversary

When Alaska became a state in 1959, protection of Alaska's ecosystems fell to the Department of Health. In 1971, the Alaska Legislature formed the Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation.

Ward Cove

Ward Cove is home to Ketchikan’s former pulp mill which began operations in 1954 and was one of the largest employers in the region for decades.

Shore Power Use by Properly Equipped Ships

20 years ago, shore power commenced in the City and Bureau of Juneau (CBJ) by the partnership of the CBJ, Alaska Electric Light and Power (AELP), and Princess Cruises.
