Large Camps

Helicopter flying over wilderness

Large camps are occupied by 25 or more people and must complete standard permitting, plan reviews, and authorizations.

Requirements for Camps

Large camps have 25 or more people residing at the camp. Due to the size of these camps, they do not qualify for the small camp authorization process and must go through standard permitting, plan reviews, and authorizations. More information is included below.

Drinking Water

If the camp will operate for 60 days or more, please complete the Public Water System Classification Form and begin the engineering plan review process. Visit the Engineering Plan Review Overview for more information.

Food Service

Large camps must obtain an FF-4 Labor Camp Food Service permit before food service may start. Visit the webpages for Opening a New Food Establishment and the Plan Review Guide for more information.

Solid Waste and Other Waste Management

All solid waste at large camps, other than ashes disposed in the pit privy or with toilet system waste, must be either

  1. Backhauled to a permitted solid waste disposal facility or a transfer station; or
  2. Disposed of using an onsite landfill that is permitted by the Solid Waste program under the Remote Camps and Lodges general permit.

Visit the Solid Waste program's Permit Applications and Forms webpage for more information

Wastewater

Wastewater engineering plans must be submitted for review and approval. Visit the Engineered Wastewater Disposal Systems page for more information.
