Large Temporary Camps

Large temporary camps are occupied by 25 or more people and have different requirements than other temporary camps.

Requirements for Large Temporary Camps

Large temporary camps have 25 or more people residing at the camp. Due to the size of these camps, they do not qualify for the temporary camp authorization process and must go through separate permitting, plan reviews, and authorizations. More information is included below.

Drinking Water

Please see the Drinking Water program's page for Engineering Plan Review Overview.

Food Service

Large temporary camps must obtain an FF-4 Labor Camp Food Service permit before food service may start. Visit the webpages for Opening a New Food Establishment and the Plan Review Guide for more information.

Solid Waste and Other Waste Management

All solid waste at large temporary camps, other than ashes disposed in the pit privy or with toilet system waste, must be either

  1. Backhauled to a permitted solid waste disposal facility or a transfer station; or
  2. Disposed of using an onsite landfill that is permitted by the Solid Waste program under the Remote Camps and Lodges general permit.

Visit the Solid Waste program's Permit Applications and Forms webpage for more information

Wastewater

Wastewater engineering plans must be submitted for review and approval. Visit the Engineered Wastewater Disposal Systems page for more information.
