Brownfields Presentations Archive
DEC invites subject matter experts to speak on a variety of brownfields-related topics to Alaska's TRPs. Those presentations are archived here. In addition, DEC annually attends and participates in statewide meetings and conferences to provide information about Alaska brownfields and available resources, as well as to engage communities and tribes in order to learn more about potential challenges impeding project development and strategize solutions for overcoming those challenges. We have collected relevant presentations from these various events on this page.

Alaska State and Tribal Response Program Workshop
DEC's Contaminated Sites Program hosts an annual Alaska State & Tribal Response Program (STRP) Brownfield Workshop to bring together representatives from Alaskan Tribal Response Programs, DEC’s State Response Program, and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Workshop attendees enjoyed a mix of presentations and small group exercises on topics that change each year, and have previously included funding for brownfield assessments and cleanups, planning for staff transitions, environmental compliance and enforcement, and environmental justice. This annual workshop provides a valuable venue for Alaskan brownfield professionals to network, share information, and discuss challenges that are unique to Alaskan brownfield projects, such as work in rural locations with no road access and short field seasons. We have posted the presentations from the STRP Brownfield Workshops at the links below.

Southeast Environmental Conference
DEC is always looking for opportunities to provide information on brownfields to the public, and so we were excited to be invited to the Southeast Environmental Conference hosted by the Central Council of Tlingit and Haida Indian Tribes of Alaska. This conference brought together Southeast Tribes, natural resource professionals, and other interest groups within the region to learn about and address common environmental priorities. This year’s conference provided participants with information and training on transboundary mining, climate change, harmful algal blooms, herring, tribal conservation districts, and brownfields sites. We have posted our "Introduction to Brownfields" presentation in PDF format at the link below.
